Statement of Intent
The type of products I plan to make are magazine front
covers, content pages and a website. With the following, I intend to represent
young females in a positive light, showing their power in the music industry.
Females are immensely underrepresented in the industry and often get publicised
through sexual and objectifying connotations and the aim of my magazine is to
battle that. As well as this, I aim to update an audience on news and upcoming
things in the music industry, but in a way that is not falsely representing
someone for the benefit of my magazine. Therefore, the primary target audience
for my magazine will be young females, aged between 16 and 30, as they will
feel a sense of identity when reading. However, the secondary target audience
will be both younger and older men and women as my magazine caters for a
variety of social groups. The main genre of my magazine is pop, but also
includes aspects of other genres such as rock, indie, contemporary and more.
This means that many people will enjoy reading my magazine and can engage with
it. My magazine keeps up with the latest trends and new, upcoming artists,
again attracting a younger audience who can identify with these people. The
colour scheme of my print products interlinks well with what issue it is. One
of the colour schemes includes bright pink, blue and white. This will typically
attract a younger demographic. However, the colour scheme for the other is more
neutral and darker colours including beige and white, which will attract an
older and more sophisticated audience. The colour scheme for my website is
bright colours including red and blue. This again will attract my primary
target audience of younger people. I will use media language to maintain and
attract my audience. The costumes that my models are wearing are relatively
casual as an audience may be able to feel identification with them for
representing ‘normality’ instead of romanticising life within fame to be glamourous
and perfect.
